Gorno Nerezi: St. Pantelejmon monastery

Today we drove up the mountain from Skopje and to the village of Gorno Nerezi -- visiting the St. Pantelejmon monastery and the Macedonian Village.

Clear skies. Sunshine. Mild weather. With friends. Thanks so much, Tanja, for this enriching afternoon.

We first visited the St. Pantelejmon monastery - completed in 1164 -- walls adorned with magnificent frescoes. The book that we bought at the monastery is not exaggerating when it says that "the frescoes preserved on its walls can rightly be considered among the greatest achievements of 12th century Byzantine painting"
