Red Hot Red Salon in Skopje

Followers of this blog may remember our favorite salon in Skopje:  Red Hot Red.

See, for example

This time, our apartment was even closer to Red Hot Red.  My daughter wanted an "ombre" look. I trusted Elena to do a great job. This was right before we left Skopje (still the beginning of summer).  Wish we could see Elena for our back-to-school 'dos.

Also pictured, my daughter also had a mani/pedi on this return trip to Skopje (!)

If you're lucky enough to be in Skopje, we highly recommend Red Hot Red.  :-))

We love Elena!

And we love when we bump into Aneta :-)

Skopje -- Bellmondo -- Shoes!

Followers of this blog may remember when I was back in Skopje in November/December 2018 that I discovered the Bellmondo shoe store in the GTC shopping center -- and that I had shoes hand-made for me in Macedonia.

I had seen a pair of shoes on their facebook page that were so interesting/different -- the leather was black and white and had people's faces.  It was such a unique leather.  But the stiletto style was not one that would be good for my everyday wear.  When I inquired if I could have them use that leather in a shoe style that would be more comfortable for me - they were happy to custom make the shoes for me.  (See this post

When I returned to Skopje with my daughter in May/June 2019, I wanted to be sure to take her to Bellmondo. (She loves shoes as much as I do!)

I picked up another pair of custom shoes (this time in the Paris print).  And my daughter found these pumps in the graffiti print:

Aladdin -- in Skopje -- with Macedonian subtitles

When we were living in Skopje in 2017, we enjoyed seeing movies at the Cineplexx at CityMall.

See, for example

or

We had the chance to see Aladdin at the Cineplexx at CityMall in Skopje (in between the charity bazaar and the charity concert -- the day before we left Skopje -- not a moment to waste!)

I still had (what was left of the balance on) the gift cards we won in the gift basket at the fundraiser for QSI in 2017) - so we put those towards our tickets an paid the rest in denars.

We loved the movie. I liked this live action version even better than the original cartoon -- mostly because of the ending. In case you have not yet seen it, I won't spoil it for you.

Here the movies play in their original language - so we were watching the movie in English, with Macedonian subtitles.

I waned to get a picture of the Macedonian subtitles - but I also didn't want to look like I was illegally recording the movie -- so I quickly snapped this picture and then put my phone away -- no subtitles - Sorry

I love seeing the movie posters in Macedonian

Billboards from the April-May 2019 Presidential Election, Skopje -- Professor Gordana Siljanovska

Previously on this blog I posted about the North Macedonian Presidential Election which was held April 21st followed by a run-off election on May 5th.  See, for example

 https://jainmacedonia.blogspot.com/2019/04/the-3-candidates-running-for-president.html

One of the candidates was a law professor from UKIM -- Professor Gordana Siljanovska (VMRO).

We had the pleasure of meeting when I was in Macedonia on my Fulbright.  In fact, I was a guest lecturer in in her Constitutional Law class:

 http://jainmacedonia.blogspot.com/2017/03/skopje-guest-lecture-at-ss-cyril-and.html

and she helped me to arrange the use of the courtrooms at the law school for my students' Supreme Court Oral argument simulation:

While we were not able to meet on my brief return visit in May, I did see Prof. Gordana's face around town on billboards.

This book, that was a gift from Professor Siljanovska, is on display in my office
