"Defining Courage" International Women's Day event at the US Embassy Macedonia

Appreciated the invitation to attend the US Embassy in Macedonia's event celebrating International Women's Day (March 8th): "Defining Courage."  There was a wonderful program of readings and music that provided a diverse array of perspectives on the challenges that women face - and it was uplifting at the same time.

Why observe International Women's Day?

"In every country women and girls face unique challenges that hold them back from full, meaningful participation in all parts of society. The United States is  committed to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls through US foreign policy, because it's part of who we are and it's essential to global peace, prosperity, and security."  Office of Global Women's Issues, US Department of State

This was an excellent program. I appreciated the diverse perspectives on challenges women face and inspiring courage to overcome them
insert in the program provides information to raise awareness about gender-based violence and about resources available to
From the US Embassy in Macedonia's facebook page:

"There are many ways to celebrate #IWD; one of them is by reenacting situations where women are disadvantaged or discriminated against. Playing the role of a journalist, Ambassador Baily discusses the pay gap between male and female soccer players from the U.S. national teams."
