MONTENEGRO, Budva: The Old Town (Archeology Museum, the Citadel, and Shopping!)

During Spring Break week we took a short (4-day) roadtrip -- from Skopje to Prizren (Kosovo) to Shkoder (Albania) to Budva (Montenegro) to Dubovnik (Croatia). 5 countries in 4 days. We hired a driver (thanks, Goran!)  so we could sit back and enjoy the scenery.

The drive along the Adriatic coast of Montenegro was simply spectacular.  No wonder there was recently a Conde Naste Traveler article titled "Get to Montenegro Now before Everyone Else Does"

Although there was also this recent article about the possibility that Kotor may lose its UNESCO World Heritage site designation because of "excessive construction and uncontrolled tourism":

Still - we can't recommend Montenegro highly enough.

We had such a lovely time in Budva.  After checking in to our hotel, we walked just a few steps to explore the Old Town, including the Citadel and the Archeology Museum, and even did a little shopping.  (I found a new suit at Lappa -- http://www.lappa.me/ )  Speaking of shopping.  A note about the currency.  Montenegro does not have its own currency; it uses the Euro.

the Dancing Girl sculpture:  We were on the lookout for this sculpture. It turns out that it was behind our hotel - and that we could see if from the balcony of our room
